Noise Complaint Playlist 01-25-10

I've already given away a few pair of tickets to see Anti-Flag at the Trocadero on Feb 3rd but don't worry...I have more. Shoot me an email to jeff@noisecomplaintradio.com if you're interested and you just might be heading to the show. I want to fill it up with Noise Complaint fans. I guess it's my little way of saying Thank You for all the support.

Speaking of saying thank you...over the next few weeks I should have some cool CD giveaways so keep your ears open on the show and be sure to check back here for more info each week.

This week we're doing some double shots. 2 songs from a few great artists including Face to Face, Anti-Flag, Alkaline Trio and Piebald. Speaking of Piebald...They're going to be working with Rise Records. Generally I have not been a big fan of Rise Records. I don't have anything against them on a personal level but I'm just not that into most of their artists. That being said, I just noticed they're releasing the new record from The Bled and now this news about Piebald. If you're a newer fan of that band and don't have their older material, you will have your chance. Check out this ARTICLE to find out more.

Here's a couple other goodies for you...

New video from Teenage Bottlerocket for "Bigger Than Kiss."

Joey Cape (Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut) is taking a page from the Bouncing Souls playbook and is releasing a new song each month in 2010. Personally, I think it was a cool idea when we first heard of it but now it's a little boring. He's made a video for the first one of 2010 and here it is...

Most Anticipated Releases of 2010 Episode

This is my favorite show of the year. I love the anticipation for what is on the way to the record stores each year. The reason I like this episode more than the Best Of one is that many of these albums will end up sucking but at least for now we get to hope for the best.

I do have tickets for the Anti-Flag/Cancer Bats/Star Fucking Hipsters show on February 3rd at the Trocadero for you. If you're interested, shoot me an email to jeff@noisecomplaintradio.com

I'm playing a new song from The Sharks tonight that I got through a free download from NME Magazine. If you want to get your hands on it, CLICK HERE.

The Get Up Kids definitely have new music coming out in 2010. The question is, how will they release it? For now, you can download a live segment they did for Daytrotter. I don't know much about Daytrotter but they have a lot of other cool live sessions as well. CLICK HERE to download it.

I saw an article that said, "If the Gaslight Anthem are punk rock's take on Springsteen, then Chicago’s AM Taxi might be punk rock's take on Gaslight Anthem." If you want to hear AM Taxi for yourself, you can CLICK HERE to download a new song of their upcoming record.

Trailer for The Runaways

I'm not a huge fan of Kristen Stewart but I think her representatives have done a great job of getting her in the right roles. As long as she plays an angsty young girl then she's all set. When I read that she would be playing Joan Jett in the new movie about The Runaways I wanted to call the movie execs up and congratulate them on a great choice. Maybe I'll be wrong but for now I'm pretty psyched about this movie...

The holiday special is my second favorite show to do every year (My favorite being the most anticipated releases show at the beginning of the year). I love taking a look back at some of the classic songs that we only get to check out for about a month each year. At least for me it's only a month. I refuse to listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

I dug up some new songs this year and squeezed them in. I'm pretty pleased with the show this year but there was a video I wanted to share with you. This is the video for Merry Swiftmas written by Evan Taubenfeld. I think it's a pretty catchy and creative song.

Noise Complaint Best Of 2009 Playlist 12/14/09

I hate this show every year. I'll get more into that in a second. First, I find it interesting that it took me until the 13th of December to see my favorite show of the year. I went to the Ottobar in Baltimore last night to catch New Found Glory and Dashboard Confessional. I was surprised at how old the crowd was. It was mostly mid to late 20 somethings which is something I'm not used to at this kind of show but I suppose as the bands have aged, so have their fans. The exciting thing about this show is that it was an all acoustic show. I've never seen NFG do an all acoustic set before and I have to admit, they killed it. It was fun to watch their singer, Jordan, try to hold himself back from jumping into the crowd though. Their shows are usually so energetic and intense but they had to tone it down a bit for last night. I was also pretty blown away by Dashboard Confessional. He came out with guns blazing from "Swiss Army Romance" and "the Places You Have Come to Fear the Most." At one point he even asked the crowd, "So what do you want to hear? New stuff or all old songs?" Naturally, the crowd responded with a resounding, "Old!" The rest of the show made me reminiscent of shows back in 1999 and 2000 up in Philadelphia when I'd show up and there was this skinny tattooed guy up on stage all alone playing these acoustic songs. As much as I wanted to hate him, I just couldn't. Neither could the crowds as they would sing along with every word. I must have seen him 10 times my freshman year because he just always seemed to be opening every show. It was good to have those memories back.

Since this is the best of version of Noise Complaint, I figured I'd share with you my 5 favorite shows from the year. These are in no particular order as they were all amazing...

Dashboard/New Found Glory at the Ottobar
Taylor Swift at Merriweather (Don't be jealous)
Riverboat Gamblers/Fake Problems at the Ottobar
Big D & The Kids Table at the Talking Head Club
The Get Up Kids at the TLA

By now you're probably asking yourself, "Why does he hate this show every year?" I'll answer that question. I hate it because it puts so much pressure on me to piece together a 2 hour representation of the year in punk rock music. I know punk songs are short but is simply not enough time. After I sat back and listened to this show I thought of so many great albums that didn't make it. Records from bands like Teenage Bottlerocket, Landmines, Cobra Skulls, and Outbreak. All great albums but they didn't make the cut. The good thing about this year was that you got really into it. I had so many suggestions and requests for this year's best of show that it became pretty easy to put it together. I always say, this show is not all about me. It's much more about you so if there are some songs/artists that you want to hear, tell me. I'm all ears. You certainly told me this year and I love that. Thank you so much for that.

Here's what you picked for the best of show tonight. I hope you enjoy it...
